Why Do Holly Hills and Delor Bridges Over Interstate 55 Need Improvements?
The Holly Hills and Delor Bridges over Interstate 55 were built in the early 1960s and have deteriorated beyond the point of simply repairing the bridges. These bridge structures need to be completely replaced. The clearances of the Holly Hills and Delor Bridges over Interstate 55 have also been points of concern.
What Improvements on Holly Hills and Delor Bridges Are Being Proposed?
- MoDOT will remove and replace the Holly Hills and Delor Bridges over Interstate 55. These bridges will be built in the same location with a higher clearance over the interstate to meet current Federal Highway standards.
- MoDOT will also upgrade the sidewalks and pedestrian ramps to American Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
How Will Traffic Be Impacted While Construction Is Under Way?
During construction, there will be various lane closures on Interstate 55 throughout the replacement project.
Delor Bridge - NOW CLOSED
The Delor Bridge over Interstate 55 closed March 14 to begin work to remove and replace this bridge.
Motorists affected by this bridge closure can detour to Virginia, Bates, Loughborough or 4500 South Broadway.
This bridge is expected to reopen in early October 2011.
Holly Hills Bridge - NOW CLOSED
The Holly Hills Bridge over Interstate 55 closed April 11 to begin work to remove and replace this bridge.
This bridge is expected to reopen in early October 2011.
When Will Construction Take Place?
Construction began in mid-March and is expected to be complete in late 2011.
Estimated Project Cost:
Replacing the Holly Hills and Delor Bridges costs approximately $3 million dollars.
