Page Avenue (Route D) bridge over River Des Peres

The Page Avenue (Route D) bridge is located west of 180 Spur, in the city of Pagedale.
As part of this project, the Missouri Department of Transportation held a virtual public meeting to discuss how traffic will move during this bridge renovation project. That public meeting was held March 5 at the Pagedale City Hall.
What is the problem?
The Route D (Page Avenue) bridge over the River Des Peres was originally constructed in 1932 and was significantly renovated in 1985. It has reached the point where another renovation for the bridge is needed to ensure it continues to remain safe for the traveling public.
What is the solution?
MoDOT and its Safe and Sound Bridge contractor, KTU, have planned to start extensive renovation work on the bridge in April 2012. The bridge will not close during the renovation work, but traffic will be shifted around the construction, and lanes and turn lanes may be closed or restricted. Construction is projected to be complete by late summer 2012.
How will traffic be impacted?
Currently, there are two lanes of traffic in each direction and a left turn lane. During construction, crews will build half of the bridge at a time. This means that only one eastbound and one westbound lane of traffic will be able to travel through the construction zone. Crews will start on the north side of the bridge and shift one eastbound and one westbound lane of traffic into the existing eastbound lanes. That portion of the project should take about six weeks, then crews will shift one eastbound and one westbound lane of traffic onto the new westbound lanes to work on the south side of the bridge.
During the entire construction process, left turns from side streets and businesses onto Page around the intersection of Page Avenue and Pennsylvania will be restricted, or prohibited, for safety. In addition, some entrances will be closed (although in no case will all access to any businesses be removed completely. )
