The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a contract in June 2010 for improvements to Interstate 55 in Scott County. The $4,333,380 contract was awarded to R.L. Persons Construction Inc., Poplar Bluff, Mo.
The project includes grading, paving, signal installation at the I-55 and Route AB interchange, and construction of an outer road from Route K to Route AB near Scott City. Additionally, a new bridge will be constructed over Ramsey Creek for the new outer road.
Work began in August 2010, when the contractor began grading work for extension of the existing outer road and pavement of Mulberry Street in Scott City. Work is expected to be complete in summer 2012.
Work zones will be marked with signs as the improvements are being made. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution near the work zones and plan for possible delays. MoDOT will alert drivers prior to any change in traffic.
