MoDOT Christmas Angels Chili Dinner a Success:
Local Businesses and Individuals Bring Christmas Wishes to Underprivileged Children
SIKESTON – Thanks to the generosity of numerous area businesses, organizations and individuals, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Christmas Angels Chili Dinner was once again a successful event. Raising more than $3,000, proceeds from the event will help underprivileged families in the southeast Missouri area.
“We started taking orders in early November,” said Senior Design Technician Katherine Hixson. “Though we started slow, businesses came through with donations and orders which will allow us to provide Christmas gifts to area children who wouldn’t otherwise have a Christmas.”
Nearly 100 businesses and individuals lent their support through chili orders, gift card donations, soccer balls and new coats. Other area organizations provided their equipment to enable MoDOT volunteers to prepare chili.
“In a time when the economy is down, it was so touching to see the outpouring of generosity,” said Senior Design Technician Angie Fields. “We are blessed to live in an area where people understand the importance of helping one another. We just can’t say thank you enough.”
While the dinner is complete, Hixson and Fields will continue to accept donations from anyone who would like to give. Businesses or individuals wishing to donate to the Christmas Angels program may send or drop their donations by the MoDOT District office located at 2675 North Main Street in Sikeston, Mo. Checks can be made out to the D10 Highway Credit Union c/o Christmas Angels. If you or your company would like to be added to the list for the 2011 Christmas Angels Chili Dinner, please send your name, address and phone number to D10christmasangels@yahoo.com.
