A group of citizens
and business owners have formed a transportation corporation with
the intention of helping fund the project that will add additional
lanes to Route 36, making it four lane between Hannibal and Macon.
The group, led by Hannibal businessman
Tom Boland, is working to get the final section of highway, from
Route 24 to Macon, under construction by June 2008. Eventually,
a transportation development district will be formed, which will
enable them to ask the voters of the five counties along the corridor
to support splitting the cost of construction with MoDOT.
