(Create a Utility Relocation project team and begin involvement of all utilities in project kickoff meeting of core team)

• Host bi-annual meetings with utility companies to communicate current and future projects beginning July 1, 2006.

• Consider utility relocation issues earlier in the design process by December 31, 2006.

         - Include utility representatives in the project kickoff meeting for the core team.

           - Create a utility relocation project team.

           - Hold a pre-design concept conference (for each project & before design scoping) to involve all impacted parties.

2. Acquire Utility Right-of-Way Team

(Acquire R/W for utilities at the same time as the roadway)

4. Utility Relocation Course Team

(Develop a course on utility relocation procedures and practices for MoDOT designers and partners)

Kickoff Meeting:  June 13, 9-11 a.m. in Training Room A at 601 West Main Street.

• Have design staff avoid utilities as they would wetlands, historic sites, etc. effective immediately.

          - Develop roles & responsibilities for district utility engineers so there is consistency statewide by August 1, 2006.

          - Develop a training course for roles & responsibilities for utility engineers – two courses – one internal and one

            external by December 31, 2006.

• Establish a mechanism to acquire and inspect utility relocates by August 1, 2006.This was added to this team, given it is an education issue.

         - Make a determination whether this is done in-house or by a third-party contractor by June 1, 2006.

• Increase the utility corridor width to accommodate all utilities during the design phase effective immediately.This is already done so incorporate it into training to help educate.

         - Eliminate the process of asking for a wider variance from 6 foot.
