Summary of Public Meeting - December 15 through December 18, 2009

(Displays below)

The public meeting for the Route 47 Bridge at Washington Environmental Impact Statement was held in Washington, MO on Tuesday, December 15 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Washington West Elementary School.  Advertisements were placed in the Warren County Record and the Washington Missourian.  An e-update (email) was sent to 225 subscribers of the Route 47 Bridge project informing them of the meeting and virtual meeting.

A display available for participants to view included “How are we narrowing our options,” “Environmental,” “What will happen next,” and a map of the two alternatives MoDOT is focusing on (upstream or downstream).  In addition, a handout was provided both at the public meeting an online for the virtual meeting.

Eleven MoDOT staff attended the public meeting including representatives from the St. Louis District, Northeast District and Central Office.

Forty-four people came to the public meeting; these numbers include about 25 members of the local Route 47 Bridge Committee who held a separate meeting prior to the public meeting.  At the bridge committee meeting, Matt and Rick went over the screening criteria in the matrix and copies of the technical matrix was made available to the public.  Many of us answered questions from the public at the meeting. There were 165 visitors to the Virtual Meeting web page from December 15 until December 18.

Five comments were received from the traditional public meeting; five comments were received from the virtual meeting.  There were three supporting the bridge being built upstream and three supporting the bridge being built downstream.  Three other comments related to the need for a new bridge and safety concerns.  One comment supported putting the bridge on either side, but asked we include an upgrade to Augusta Bottoms Road.  Another comment encouraged building a four-lane bridge, and another wanted to ensure we had a bike/ped path regardless of width.
