MoDOT's first priority during a snow event is to keep the roadways clear of snow and ice. This requires crews to make several trips along the same route to ensure the driving surface remains clear. Once the snow has stopped falling, crews will return to the area to widen the cleared areas and clear the shoulders.
As crews clear a path, snow plowed from roads could possibly block a private drive or entrance for some time. MoDOT understands the inconvenience this can cause, but due to limited time and resoureces, plows can only clear private driveways at the request of local emergency officials.
Here are some tips to help reduce the amount of snow that might block your driveway. When clearing your driveway, shovel an open area along the shoulder at the entrance. This will give the plowed snow a place to go from the roadway, preventing the snow from backfilling your driveway. Plow blades will push snow into the area just before your entrance, leaving a much smaller amount in front of it
