Adopt-A-Highway
Local organizations
and others interested in improving Missouri's environment
can help with litter pickup, beautification or mowing through
MoDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program.
About
3,700 Adopt-A-Highway groups are responsible for approximately
5,000 miles of Missouri roadway. Their efforts save
MoDOT about $2 million each year. In District 4, approximately
400 active adopters maintain over 400 miles of roadway.
Sponsor-A-Highway
The new Sponsor-A-Highway program complements MoDOT’s current Adopt-A-Highway program and offer one more way for citizens to clean up Missouri. Groups or organizations can sponsor a highway in the Kansas City and pay a private group, Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Services of America, Inc., to do litter cleanup and other services on their behalf.
Roadside sections that are sponsored are cleaned at least once a month, or more if needed. Sponsors will still receive a sign with their name and logo on it, denoting the highway section they have sponsored, similar to the signs other groups receive for adopting highways. The sponsors will pay the contracted company based on the amount of highway cleaned and how often their sponsored area is to be cleaned.
