Why is MoDOT doing this project?

The Bannister Road (Route W) bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad and Big Blue River are deteriorating and routine maintenance will no longer keep pace with the decay. Both bridges will be repaired to make them safer, and smoother for motorists.

How does this project benefit me?

This project combines the repair of two bridges under MoDOT’s Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program with two nearby bridges that were scheduled for repair through MoDOT’s annual construction program. Combining the two under one contract reduces the time for traffic restriction, motorist delays and cost to taxpayers.

What is the project time line?

Construction begins Monday, Feb. 8. The four-lane, divided state highway will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side through mid-July to allow repairs and redecking on two westbound bridges. Once completed, traffic will be shifted onto the westbound side to allow demolition and construction on the two eastbound bridges. The contractor, Comanche Construction Inc., encountered more extensive repair work that anticipated and expects to complete all work late this winter.

How much does this project cost?

This project costs $3,383,420. Combining the two under one contract reduces the cost to taxpayers.
