Missouri Prepared with Flooding Information for Independence Day Travelers With rain, runoff and reservoir releases contributing to flooding along the Missouri River, MoDOT is partnering with Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska to provide road closures and detour information to travelers who may be heading across the nation's heartland this Fourth of July. Flooding Drivers Urged to Cross Missouri River at Kansas City Flooding along the Missouri River has caused MoDOT to urge travelers headed east or west across the heartland to cross the river in Kansas City. River MoDOT Aiming to Minimize Delays and Keep You Safe this Independence Day This Fourth of July, MoDOT will suspend all routine construction and maintenance for the long weekend to open the roads as much as possible to holiday travelers and improve safety. July 4 MoDOT Extends Allowance for Slightly Overweight Loads As part of the flood relief efforts, MoDOT has extended until Aug. 1 an allowance for motor carriers to haul heavier than normal loads of sand, gravel and farm commodities on select Missouri highways. Slam Dunk To encourage safety belt use, MoDOT has released a new video that shows a kid who’s challenging another guy in a basketball game and betting his dad’s car. Unfortunately for the kid, the other guy is three feet taller. The message is that sometimes we all do stupid things like not wearing our seat belt.
